At Shimoda Laboratory, we welcome students who wish to explore a wide range of cultural resources in the fields of architectural heritage, archaeological sites, and historic cities.
We approach these topics through various perspectives—including preservation, utilization, international cooperation, and advanced technologies.

We are currently engaged in the following themes:

• Conservation and revitalization of historic townscapes in Japan and across Asia

• Architectural and urban heritage studies in Southeast Asia

• Application of digital technologies such as 3D scanning and virtual reality to cultural heritage

• Tourism and community planning utilizing historic buildings

• International systems and policies related to cultural heritage, including the World Heritage Convention
